A trade association for Colorados ski industry has decided it will no longer disclose how much business its members log each season. Colorado Ski Country USA has traditionally provided the number of skier and snowboard rider visits that each of its members recorded throughout the course of the ski season.

Residents and property owners in Sun Peaks will elect their first mayor and council June 12. Running for mayor in the ski resort north of Kamloops is Al Raine, husband of Olympic gold medal skier Nancy Greene Raine. Raine is a longtime resident of Sun Peaks and chairman of the Sun Peaks Mountain Resort Association.

A consultant hired by the city of Ashland said the planned Mt. Ashland Ski Area expansion is unlikely to cause erosion of sediment into Reeder Reservoir, but he recommended the city try to team with the ski area and the U.S. Forest Service to make sure the expansion is done carefully.

A woman from Mississauga died Wednesday after crashing into a tree while snowboarding at the Beaver Valley Ski Club east of Markdale. Police were called to the ski club at about 11 a.m. to respond to a report of a seriously injured snowboarder, Grey County OPP said in a news release.

LILLEHAMMER, Norway (AP) — Olympic champion Simon Ammann of Switzerland has won the ski jumping World Cup overall title. Ammann needed only 18 points coming into Friday’s event to clinch his first overall title and earned 274.5 points with jumps of 135 and 133.5 meters.
