Well, since I was up at my place this morning, and didn’t have to be back to CT until late afternoon, and there was a window on the radar loop that was showing that there was going be be a “less wet slot” (calling it a dry slot would be a HUGE exageration ) rolling across Southern VT, I wrapped my self in Gore-tex and headed out for a few runs! The liftlines were massive (okay I had to wait a maximum of about 3 seconds for the gates to open for the loading belt on the Grand Summit…

Payback time for those of you who’ve helped me in the past find good skiing. Upper Smith Walton (the only steepish drop at the wa) is edge to edge bumps. Really nice bumps. They were NOT icy even at 9:30 this morning. I skied them 10 times. Some snow on the tops even before they softened up. The whole mountain is in good shape, amazingly after all the rain. Upper mountain was a bit hard (as in kind of icy) for the first hour or so, lower mountain was absolutely perfect snow at 8:50…

After my usual excruciatingly thorough research I finally made a destination decision last night and it was MRG. Yeah it would be a zoo with the Telemark Festival but I figured that would be fun to see and I was keen on the idea of spring skiing with 100% of MRG open. And while I’d been seriously thinking of Black (NH) because the forecasts yesterday afternoon indicated more sun today over that way, by late last night there didn’t seem to be much difference, and a check this morning indicated…
