Magic Friday 3/5

Saturday, March 6th, 2010

Finally got up to Magic on Friday after two unsuccessful tries the week before. It was crusty in the morning, but softened-up in the afternoon sun. Met up with Tim and Travis and had a great time skiing trails that I never skied before. Magician was sick! They got lots-O-snow!! Conditions were deep! Ok, here’s my first attempt at a video and first Vimeo, be gentle. My PHC (Poor-man’s Helmet Cam) needed some UP adjustment, as the last part of the video is a worm’s eye view of skiing…

Plattekill 3/5/2010

Saturday, March 6th, 2010

Great day at a great hill. Arrived just in time to get the $15 deal. They hit 100 about 10 places after me. I don’t think they went too far over 100. Grooming was just finishing as I booted up in an empty lodge. Sun was shining, lifts were ski-on alllllll day. What a cool place. Tons of character, really nice people. First time there, so started on the triple and skied the entire hill starting skiers left. Top half of the face was set up a bit in the morning, but softened nicely as it…

Saddleback – March 6, 2010

Saturday, March 6th, 2010

Date(s) Skied: March 6, 2010 Resort or Ski Area: Saddleback Conditions: PP / Loose Powder Trip Report: Another great day at Saddleback. Bluebird skies. Moderate Temps (low 30’s base, 20’s up top) but a bit windy at the top. BUSY! Talked to the resorts marketing director and he said it was the busiest day of the year for them. We stuck to the t-bar and Upper quad all day and the waits were bearable. The lines stink, but more lift tickets bought means…

Ragged 3/6/10

Saturday, March 6th, 2010

Bluebird day as I notched my first corn snow of the season (which now is in its sixth calendar month). How much corn depended on sun exposure to a considerable degree but even Treehugger glades and Rags to Riches softened up enough to be quite skiable by late afternoon – a bit loud in spots, but a lot of fun. And it was a blast hitting RtoR with deadheadskier and reefer (and earlier runs with reefer’s son), even if they were treated to the spectacle of my 12-year-old son and his friend leaving…

Okemo – 3.6.10

Saturday, March 6th, 2010

Skied Okemo with the kids today. Weather was good but there was a cool breeze blowing in the AM. This was Megan’s first time there so we toured most of the mountain, skipping Jackson Gore. Best snow of the day was on the south face. The place was PACKED. i don’t think i’ve ever seen so many people and cars there before. Even the slow lifts had lines. Last few runs of the day found the snow not in direct sun had scraped off revealing some scratchy surfaces. Managed one run down the…

Quick report. Skied with my daughters today. Awesome time. they eventually both did Temptor and Stinger. Getting my barely 4 year old on some blacks was awesome. My oldest wasn’t sure, but the little one yells, “just come on, Abby!” Great to ski with o3jeff and his nephew. Enjoyed watching MrMagic rip Gunny which looks sick. Ragged Mt , 3/5/10

Saturday, March 6th, 2010

Ragged, 3/5/10 Weather: blue sky, some thin high clouds, nice sun, temps as shown by those so very accurate thermometers at the lift base about 40* F, little wind. Conditions: good cover everywhere but really hard surface. No ice and quite edgable. Sort of loose – granular as they say. Where groomed, it was pretty OK for fast cruising with good deal of confidence that if you dug your edges in, they would carry you in desired direction. Natural snow trails/ungroomed slopes (Birches,…
