Over 1000 Kids Ski Barnebirkie. Over 1000 young skiers slid to the line on thursday for the Barnebirkie. Pretty impressive considering the town of Hayward has a population of about 2500. We had a good group from the Boys and Girls Club. …

Spent a few hours at Mt. Snow today with the family. As others have said in trip reports this week, the amount of snow there is outrageous. At the Carinthia lodge, the deck is pretty much walk-on now. In the past I’ve seen this much snow, but what is remarkable is that this ALL came this week. The amount of snow made every I skied a riot! Uncles was the best I ever remember skiing it. Hop was similarly great–big fluffy pillow moguls all the way down. We spent some time in…

I get small thrills from feeling my skis leave the ground, even if only for moments….Last weekend I met the family in Denver for a quick ski trip (part II – yay!). It. Was. Awesome….So we changed gears and pointed our skis down the greens. That’s when life became oh so sweet….Skiing three days was a dream, and thankfully we woke up to four to six inches of snow each morning – our skis were aching to float through the fluffy stuff….

On Saturday, we hit Bolton for our annual family and friends trip. It’s a low-key day, with skill levels ranging from high to low, but predominantly on the lower end of the scale. So we aim to make fun. Bolton simply rocked. 5″ of new snow overnight and 2″ during the day, with the usual weekend crowd, made for 2 minute lift lines all day. The green groomers were perfect for those of lesser confidence. http://www.iabsi.com/ski/2010/02%20Bolton%20Stowe/0227001310.jpg …

Quick family session today. Snow was springlike. Very soft at the base. Got my 4 year old ripping turns on Canyon Run and Nor’easter. She might be ready for Temptor soon (no bumps). After the girls called it, I got in three runs on Gunny. So far I counted about 9 lines, Each with about 10 turns. Spacing is perfect! Small, but soft. There were even a line or two of natural bumplets below the seeded area. Soft snow. Gonna try to get back some afternoon this week.

Date(s) Skied: Sunday, 2/28/20101 Resort or Ski Area: Okemo Conditions: Packed Powder Trip Report: It was tough getting up at 6AM to drive 2 hours south from Stowe to Okemo. I had made plans a month ago to meet a couple of friends from Albany at Okemo whom I had never skied with and was excited for that, I was excited to return ‘home’ to Okemo (I grew up skiing there) having not been in 10 years, but Stowe is the place I want to be after a dump.

I went solo to Magic today. I’ve never skied solo before, the last three years I’ve been going primarily with my son, and he went to college this year. I wasn’t sure if I was going to like it. It was a great day, warmish temps, great snow and surprisingly great conversations on the lift – generally I’m pretty quiet. I went xc skiing yesterday for 3 hours, my legs felt cooked on the first couple runs, but they loosened up after the third run. That said, I didn’t ski great today, I would guess…

I skied practically from first to last chair on 2/27 and most of the day on 2/28. Saturday was crowded like hell. The line for the K1 and the Skye Peak Express was overflowing out of the corrals for much of the day, moreso Skye Peak Express since it was still overflowing at 3:30 even with all 4 plus the singles line open. At one point, K1 took 15 minutes in the singles line and Skye Peak typically took 10 minutes. Also, South Ridge Triple was running and most of the chairs were occupied,…

Conditions: variable snow, overcast, 30’s, no wind Figured I’d close out February with a trip to Loon today. I got an early start, so was in line for the gondola when it opened at 8. Crowds were pretty moderate today, with many of the lifts ski on for the singles line. Even the gondola wasn’t much of a wait in the singles line. The regular lines looked like a ten minute or so wait at the more popular lifts. Pretty much everything was groomed overnight except maybe some of the black…
